Imagery

“Guī” is the jade tablet a lord held at court; the green tablet was the emblem of the east. A muted, sober green.

Origin

In the ancient rites each direction had its tablet, and the east — spring, wood, the green — had the green one. As the combining colour it gives Grain in Ear a ceremonial close: the term’s greens end not in foliage but in a stone tablet held in the hand.
