Imagery

Official wine was sealed with a yellow stamp — “yellow-sealed wine” was a gift of the court. A warm, deep straw-yellow.

Origin

Court wine was sent out under a yellow seal, and the phrase became a byword for imperial favour. As the combining colour it closes Minor Cold on the term’s deepest yellow — the palette has gone from near-white to a colour you would stamp a seal in.
