“zhàn” means deep, steeped. Vermilion taken down to a dark, saturated red-brown.

Origin

As Summer Solstice’s turning colour the palette leaves the surface of things for the depth of the dye-pot. The four reds are descending in a single line — blaze, skirt, steeped, and then the deepest of all.
