Imagery

“Jué tóu”, sparrow-head, is an old name for a dark wine-red used on ritual caps. A near-black crimson.

Origin

The jiúctóu colour belonged to ceremonial headwear, its red so dark it reads as black at a glance. As the combining colour it closes Frost’s Descent at the floor of the term — cinnabar taken all the way down to the brink of winter.
